5 Replies to The 5 Biggest Macy’s Stores in Illinois, United States

  1. The retail aesthetics we’re beautiful, however there a were few empty display windows on both Wabash and State Street side…to my dismay. Macys is beautiful but it does not compare to the grandeur that was once Marshall Field’s & Co., my old employer back in the 80s.

On a positive note, I was very pleased to see that the old Walnut Room has reopened for specialty brunches, special events and wedding packages 💐

  2. Update: Today I signed up for a Macy’s credit card and spent 6 hours here, on only 2 floors. This store has everything imaginable. Third floor women’s is full of the most beautiful dresses I’ve ever seen. And many great sales for Father’s Day weekend coming up.
Amazing store!! An entire city block. You will need many many trips here to fully enjoy what Macy’s has to offer. Today it was pre- black Friday specials/prices. I found several items, and with a Macy’s charge an extra 20 percent off. Unfortunately I don’t have a Macy’s credit card, but it was still a good deal!

  3. I had a wardrobe malfunction whereas I needed a dress asap. The staff in Macy’s was amazing. They pointed me in the right direction and checked me out very quickly. Did I mention the dress was on sale?! $50!

  4. almost an entire block of retail with gothic/ornate columns and tile ceilings, where you can find something for everyone. there is a restaurant up on the top floor and during winter holidays have pretty decorations up.
lower level has their ‘rack equivalent backstage goods’, food court, bookstore, and most importantly is connected to the pedway which is great during the storms/bad weather.
visitors should check this place out and try not to get lost!

  5. Overall a unique visit for experiencing such a large department store. I kinda got whiplash going from floor to floor though. Some are clean and lavish while others look quite dated!

I recently visited Macy’s and I was overall impressed with the store. The variety of products was excellent, and I was able to find everything I was looking for. The design of the store was also very nice, with a bright and airy feel. The music playing in the store was a bit boring, but it wasn’t too loud or distracting. I had a bit of a negative experience with the sales associate, Marta. She was not very talkative, and when I went to make a return, she took the jewelry and turned her back to me without explanation. I was a bit upset by this, but overall I had a positive experience at Macy’s.

I have been to almost every Macy’s in Chicago and outlying suburbs. Even shopped Macy’s in Henderson, Nevada.

However my experience here at the Woodfield Mall was absolutely amazing. Every single employee was so kind. The associate at the register Cindy, who handled our return with such ease and poise. Jackie who led me to the petite section; even though I didn’t find what I needed, but she walked me to it. It made me feel so special!!

They are the epitome of the Macy’s I remember shopping at with my mom as a child. The young lady in the shoe department. I am sorry I forgot your name. She made me feel amazing in my new DKNY high pumps!! She was so helpful and so kind.. THANK YOU

We were here two weeks ago; ordered a mattress. He was amazing. He got help from the manager and was able to order the exact one I had to cancel before. ABOVE AND BEYOND!!

Thank you to all of you.. YOU ROCK!!

I generally have a good experience at this Macys. It is relatively clean, have a large selection of products in stock, and have a lot of respectful employees most of the time. However, I’ve experienced numerous negative experiences checking out on the top floor in all recent visits. I used to see the same few employees at one specific checkout area pretty often, and they are sociable, helpful, and keep the fitting room area very clean. More recently throughout all of my visits, I’ve seen a group of employees who are very rude, lazy, and not helpful; it is the same group of employees every time. The dressing rooms are a mess because the stalls and floors are all filled with clothes, the registers have no employees (even when there is a line of people waiting to check out…the group of employees are present and are chatting slightly away from the checkout), and the employees themselves are very rude to customers, as they are selective in customers they want to be nice to while prejudiced to others. Hear me out—I would understand the mess in the fitting room if the area is busy. I’ve also worked in retail, so I get it. However, I’ve seen it almost empty at times while seeing these employees just chatting and laughing among themselves and at customers, or being on their phones and texting, rather than actually doing something productive. I’ve also seen these same employees just walking around and doing nothing…literally just walking around the same racks of clothes. I’ve also never seen an employee who would shove a suit, tux, or nice dress in a bag balled up? It’s usually hung up on a hanger with a large bag over it…Maybe they’re new employees? Who knows…

Went to return some items today. Had tags and receipt for everything. First went to the 2nd floor register in the dress department. Encountered a rude employee, first telling me that I couldn’t return my items because the tags weren’t attached, and then sending me away to a register in a different department. Got to the second register near the Plus department, where the 2 women working there were obviously annoyed by my presence. On the upside, one of them did process my return, never mentioning anything about the tags not being attached. Such apathy and rudeness from every employee I met will likely encourage me to take my business elsewhere.

Went into the store today and there was no air conditioning. It was extremely hot inside. This is just another item on the long list of the downfall of this location. I rarely shop here because the quality of their overall merchandise has gone down. It’s now a store to scavenge racks for a decent piece of clothing and nothing more. So sad. They used to have a wonderful food court, a large area for Lladro, crystal and China with lots of high end kitchenware. No more candy counter and working escalators either. They have not made an effort to decorate the store for the holiday season in several years and they nearly eliminated the Christmas decor section. Leaving large piles of boxes filled with cookware in the walkways could be a fire code violation, plus it looks bad. The only improvement I noticed is that they renovated the bathrooms.

Place to go for a mattress! I got a great deal! Sabin was the best Mattress Sales Associate. He listened to what I wanted and my budget and pointed me in the right direction. He was very knowledgeable and a pleasure to purchase from.

My favorite Macy’s in Chicagoland! I’m amazed they haven’t tried remodeling their exterior. I bet it hasn’t been touched since Marshall Field’s opened it in the early 60s! It’s still a great four level Macy’s though!

Macy’s is one of the oldest and most prominent retail chains in the country, offering a wide range of products, including clothing, accessories, beauty products, home goods, and more. The company was founded in 1858 and has since grown to become a household name in the retail industry.

Macy’s often serves as an anchor store in many shopping malls, meaning it occupies a large, prominent space and draws significant foot traffic to the mall. As an anchor store, Macy’s presence can contribute to the success and popularity of the shopping center as a whole.

We came to the Oakbrook Macy’s in hopes of finding a suit, and we met Diane who sized my husband for his shirt, and she went above and beyond. She explained the whole process of the Macy’s card, along with the perks that come with the card. She nicely package my husband’s suit, and ordered a pair of slacks online and selected an option to have them shipped to our home. Diane in the suit department was amazing and provided quality customer service. Thanks for all your help Diane.
